The international Workshop: "Physics of Light-Matter Coupling in Nitrides II" will be held 26-29 September 2001 at the Congress Center of the Pontificia Università San Tommaso "Angelicum" in Rome (Italy). The Workshop is organized by the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and sponsored by the European commission via the Research Training Network "Physics of GaN-based microcavities (CLERMONT)" and by the National Institute of Physics of Matter (INFM) via the Research Network "Semiconductor Devices". The Workshop aims at bringing together some of the leading specialists in the fields of nitride-based heterostructures and of fundamental aspects of the light-matter coupling problem in solids. The previous international meeting on the Light-Matter Coupling in Nitrides (PLMCN-0) has been organized in St-Nectaire (October 2000). The Workshop is restricted to investigation on low dimension nitride based systems: quantum wells, quantum dots, microcavities, photonic band gap structures, nitride processing methods. The meeting will be limited to no more than 90 participants. Around 10 invited papers will be given, focussing on growth, processing, optical spectroscopy and theory of nitride-based semiconductor micro and nanostructures. A few invited papers on the general aspects of the exciton and exciton-polariton physics, as well as on the recent achievments of the ultra-fast optical spectroscopy are planned. Traditionally,
the PLMCN meetings offer to the attendees an informal and relaxing atmosphere.
The social program will include an excursion to the famous Foro
Romano and to Villa
Adriana. Villa Adriana was built by Emperor Hadrian in AD118. It
occupies a large area (extending 120 hectares) at the base of the Tiburtini
mountains southwest of Tivoli (around 30 km form Rome). The complex is
a series of buildings of monumental character spread out among the green
surroundings and blending intimately with them. The perfect fusion of architecture
and landscape makes Hadrian's Villa an exception in the history of ancient
architecture. The conference dinner will be served at one of the famous
restaurant
of Tivoli.
