Profile
Sergio A. Castro Hermosa was born and raised in Neiva (Colombia). As a product of his Ph.D., he developed the first perovskite solar cell on a paper substrate reaching state of art on paper solar cell efficiency. In 2014, he was awarded by Departamento del Huila (Colombia) with a full scholarship for PhD studies. Before moving to Italy, he completed a bachelor in Mechatronic Engineering and a MSc in Materials and Process Engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, Colombia. Between 2011 and 2012 he received a scholarship for outstanding graduate students from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. The topic of his PhD research is in novel flexible perovskite solar cells and new strategies for solar cell stability.
Research Activity
Sergio A. Castro Hermosa, in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute (FEP), is working on novel encapsulation processes for flexible perovskite solar cells using ultra-high permeation barriers.
-Development of perovskite solar cells on paper substrates, and new transparent electrodes for photovoltaics.
-Design of slot-die coater for the large area deposition of perovskite solar cells fabrication.
-Fabrication of perovskite solar cells and modules on non-conventional flexibles substrates
